It Seems I am a Winner!
« on: January 14, 2009, 08:25:16 PM »
Over at the Home Theater Forum... just for kicks... I entered a contest to win a free DVD. Basically they make a post telling you what you can win. Tell you to reply once (and only once) with favorite character or what have you related to the DVD. And then use a random number generator to pick a post number... and I actually won!

I won...

Spin City: Season 1
Spin City is a smart, sophisticated ABC sitcom about the behind-the-scenes workings of City Hall in the biggest city in America. Workaholic Mike Flaherty (Michael J. Fox) is the Deputy Mayor of New York City, serving as Mayor Randall Winston's (Barry Bostwick, Rocky Horror Picture Show) key strategist and much-needed handler.

Mike runs the city with the help of his oddball staff: an anxious and insecure press secretary (Richard Kind, Mad About You); a sexist, boorish chief of staff (Alan Ruck, Ferris Bueller's Day Off); an impeccably groomed gay activist running minority affairs (Michael Boatman, Arliss); a sharp and efficient, man-crazy accountant (Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights); and an idealistic young speechwriter (Alexander Chaplin). Like Mike, they are all professionally capable by personally challenged.

Spin City was an immediate hit when it debuted in 1996. The series reunited Fox with Family Ties executive producer and creator Gary David Goldberg and proved that the magic of their creative partnership was enduring.

This is a series I have enjoyed in the past... and was figuring I would eventually add to my collection. So this is a pretty cool win for me. I never won anything at Home Theater Forum before... so I will have to let you know how smoothly it goes. I don't expect any problems as I have seen other people win there and get their prize without any problems.

Congrats!

I remember seeing a few episodes of that show on TV in the past and they were decently funny.

The one and only contest I've ever won was from Home Theater Forum and I got my disc just fine.  Reading your description, it sounds like a Sam Posten give-away.  He's always running those and I've never heard any complaints, so I don't expect any problems either.

The movie I won was Harsh Times on HD DVD.  It's not a movie I would have ever picked out for myself, and even after seeing it, I'm still not sure I'd pick it up.  I guess it was a good movie, but not really my style.  So that's really cool that it's actually something you want!

I entered once in a competition on a German DVD forum and won "Bambi 2" on DVD :)

Pete, you lucky guy ;)
I had to buy my copy of "Spin City: Season 1". It should arrive any day now.

The only time I've won is last year when I've won Philosophy of a Knife (2 disc edition) at avmaniacs and for that I've used my niece artistic talent (we have to make something artistic and I haven't this talent) to win.

I try each week at dvdverdict too, but no luck yet...

Thanks everyone... looking forward to checking it out.

Yes Mark... it was a Sam Posten give-away. And nope... not expecting any problem either. Hopefully I will hear back from him when he sends it out. Of course, then again, it is always cool to see something in the mail unexpectedly too.  :P

I have won several DVDs in the past. Unfortunately DVDP doesn't seem to let me filter or sort by purchase place that I can find (where I have it set as purchase place: Won... may need to change that.)... but off the top of my head...

- Fangoria: Blood Drive
- Desperate Housewives: Season 1
- Spin City: Season 1

I am sure there is a few more... but can't think of them off the top of my head.
