Also if I would buy it now, I would definetely go with the Blu-ray release (e.g. £8.98 at Amazon.co.uk). Even though it is watchable, the video quality on the DVD release is far from perfect (at least on my 2004 R1 release).

Have you seen the quality of the bluray yet?, it is on my wishlist but I was wondering if they have achieved a major improvement in quality?

No, I haven't. But I think it would definately be better than my DVD release. I almost would have ordered it myself, but I still stand strong with not double-dipping by upgrading my movies to Blu-ray.

As I am sure everyone has seen it, I won't do a full review, but would just say I believe it is nearly faultless and a modern classic.

I own it but... :bag:

Kathy - please, please watch the film

I'll watch it tonight after football or, if I'm too tired, tomorrow since I'm free all day.

No need to beg...a little groveling will do!

Great stuff, and I'm not immune to a touch of grovelling when necessary  ;D
Look forward to seeing your review

A DVD collection containing an unwatched Shawshank Redemption is like never driving your own car! You might as well not have a TV... ;)

Looking forward to your comments.

Hey... I never seen it either. But to be honest it really doesn't look like my type of movie.

It also seemed like this to me also going by the synopsis. But give it a chance, Pete. There is a reason that it is number 1 at IMDb's Top 250. It is universally likable.

I will have to give it a try when I get the chance to either pick it up or catch it on cable.

Can I add my :2cents: that this is indeed a good movie? I had resisted for a long time (just never got around to it, somehow) until Erik (from Invelos forum) pushed me to finally see it. I then postponed the purchase since the Blu-ray had been announced. While I wouldn't put it on the No. 1 spot myself I must say it's a great movie which never dragged despite its 3hr runtime. If anything I had a slight problem with the very last scene of the film, which I obviously can't descibe here.

In the book this last scene is not in it. And I agree, that this scene does not really fit with the rest of the movie. But I can live with it.
