But the savegames shouldn't tied to the motherboard.. so if you can read them off the hard drive, you should be able to move them to the new one.. no?
I most certainly hope so. I personally think as you and will try that once I get the new PS3 and my HD back.

I had a read a bit in various forums and it seems while some have been lucky many could not read the data. It is assumed that the permissions are set strict, just like in Windows a Usert cannot even access the Admin's folders... When connecting to a PC you supposedly "see nothing" as the file system is incompatible.

But I have still hope.

:( Tried to have a bash on CoD:MW2 this morning but I got the dreaded RRoD.

Had a chat with Max at MS support(surprisingly helpful and easy) who was going to email me the returns labels to get it sorted.

Unfortunatley I'm probably not going to get my 360 back until the new year. :(

Oh wow, RRoD sucks! my brother got it in September his 360 was just out of the allocated time though :/ He bought a new 360 elite and got a free transfer pack or something from Microsoft.

Good luck sending it off, a friend of mine got it back quite quickly.

RROD on 360 really sucks. I've had it twice in 3 years. Which isn't too bad I guess. After my second RROD, which happened just a tad before the warranty expired, I still went a bought one the new Arcade models which are supposedly RROD resistant. <fingers crossed>

Also, today marks the end of an era. I've been an <paying then Gold> Xbox Live member since its first inception. I was part of the very first Beta for it (oh the fun we had playing MotoGP back then).

I saw it grow... and grow.... and grow...

and over-grow.

It's lost its appeal.

Dumb obnoxious annoying brats are taking over.

Oh what I would give for the chance to get back to that tight, close group back in the beta.

It was much more fun that way....

I feel your pain :(

Seems I am lucky that I only have to wait a total of 7-10 days :heat:

Sorry for being obtuse, so you cancelled your subscription and are now non-paying member...? Non-paying still allows you to play or just purchases from the store?

if you no longer pay for gold, you cannot play online any more and you cant talk to one person on the mic, you can still use the store etc.

I have never paid for gold but i buy my brother gold membership for his birthday ever year in January since he has had his 360, he isn't enjoying at as much any longer for the same reason, "too many annoying people" nobody wants to just play a game, they want to be silly.

Im looking at a PS3 partly for the Blu-ray and partly for free online gaming, I wouldn't feel so bad about the annoying people if im not paying for the service.

I didn't cancel it, I just removed my credit card from my account so that when my Gold term came to an end, it would stop and revert to Silver status.

Like Emma said, that removes access to online multiplayer but still allows me access to the marketplace and demos/trailers/etc downloads.

The nail in the coffin for me was that last time I tried playing Rock Band, I kept getting booted out of groups because i wouldn't choose a song, or because i didn't have a particular song, or because I wouldn't chat while playing...

why the heck should I have to chat while playing a music game? It's not like there's team strategy to communicate.. so what if I don't chat? oh I don't activate overdrive at the right time if I don't talk.. but that's bull because I can hear what they say!

also, so what if I don't have a specific song.. it's not like there's aver a thousand on there! sheesh just choose something else!

and don't get me started on the booting off because i won't choose a song.. how dumb is that? if i have the song in my game, it's because i like, so just choose a song, and if you want to choose, there's a nice little option at the top called "random song"... re-sheesh!

and i'm not even getting into Halo, Gears of War or GTAIV..... anoyafest!

I understand connectivity can be a bit more flaky and some games' options aren't as plentiful as they may be on LIVE. I live in a bad spot though, as I often need to connect to servers far away from me, so that could be one major problem right there. In the end I guess it's "you get what you pay for" and I am certainly not complaining about what I am getting for free on the PSN.

To my taste I have not often had the displeasure of meeting obnoxious or otherwise annoying people. Yes, I have been kicked for being at a different level or because they wanted to stay among themselves; a bit strange when it happens, but I get over it quickly. I also met people who rather fool around than follow the mission objectives. In the end and overall it's all good fun though.

Thanks Achim, ill have to look around about bad spots, we have problems with reception for phones and some portable USB internets so we may have a problem with the PS3. I wont be getting one for a long time though, gotta get a new laptop first.

Ummm, no, not what I meant. The PS3 uses your regular internet connection, requires a high-speed connection (ADSL or similar) for that even. But then that should be fine for your.

What I meant was, that I am in Taiwan and when I play with people in the UK or US then the intenret connection can occasionally be too slow and cause lag for me. Since you'll be closer to the server you should be fine.

My brothers 360 disconnects all the time... I guess it will be the same for the PS3... the internet is not that great in my area.

After reading about all the trouble people have with these game systems, I'm glad I don't own any! :tease:

The games themselves make up for all the trouble ;)

I enjoy video games but I've never played online.  I guess I prefer either playing by myself or with someone next to me on that rare occasion I get my brother or nephew to play with me.
