HUAH!

Installed it yesterday. Played a couple of levels, including the controversial one. Pretty bleak stuff...

I got it (on PS3).

played first two levels and then put it back down temporarily to continue Operation Anchorage.

Played the levels on Regular first (just couldn't get the Training level done fast enough to get recommended for Hardened :bag:) and then played level 2 on Hardened, which is quite rough already. Now not sure if I should continue Hardened or Regular :headscratch: Guess I'll visit Mthership Zeta while thinking about it.

I've completed it on Novice and intend to go back through it, I may even attempt it on Hardened  ???

As a really poor gamer I'm quite surprised at how short a time it took me to complete (6hrs 15mins-ish), from what friends have said the Live experience is frakking awesome, but where does that leave those of us who aren't overly fussed about getting pwnd by some 14 year-old that should really be out getting fresh air and not sat in a darkened room for way too many hours a day?

Yes, it's a short game. All review point that out, so buyers know what to expect.

As for multi player, I believe it was the reviewer at IGN who pointed it out: Most people who have been playing Modern Warfare for years now will be moving on to Modern Warfare 2. If you are a newbie or otherwise not among the highly skilled (like me), your experience online will likely be a disappointing one (unless you don't mind a K/D ration of 0.1 or less).

I guess I know where I stand and will play the single player only, maybe some of the co-op stuff, if a PSN friend doesn't mind my lack of ability.

While still getting pwned a lot, I quite enjoyed the multiplayer of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Even more the co-op variations of it!

I hear alot of people have reached Martyrdom level on the new game, which is not good for new players... I think the game is short due to the live content, the game could have been online only and sold just as many copies.

In the Uncharted 2 multiplayer one can make the game more difficult for oneself (less health, etc.) in order to get more points. This will at the same time give beginnners a better chance to compete.

Martyrdom is the one you get for dying endlessly?

I returned back to Fallout 3 to complete the DLC quests.

Operation Anchorage was nothing special but looked pretty. Also, I looked up the glitch thing and now have a few indestructible weapons; no more need to repair my sniper rifle

Mothership Zeta was great for being something entirely different but unfortunately highly repetitive and very linear (almost on rails). Rumor had it that on PS3 you can't return so I made sure I took all my loot the first time.

The Pitt was highly entertaining story and interesting enemies. I found the reveal of the cure rather unpredictable.

Point Lookout. What were they thinking??? I had to take difficulty down by two steps just to survive the battle in the mansion. :o Of course, partly my own fault for going traveling to Point Lookout without weapons and then only using what the store there provided.

Then yesterday, while roaming Point Lookout I hear a high-pitched clicking sound and the screen went black :weep: My PS3 now cannot be started up and has a red blicking light (so not the YLOD). Gave it to the service today and they estimated 3-7 days for repair. :( I felt gutted to the point that I thought: you really don't know what else to do? (Used the opportunity today to get into Dexter's Season 3)

An update:

The service guy called and said the motherboard is damaged; I am well out of warranty... He then offered to provide a new, highly disounted PS3 "Slim" , namely $174 instead for the usual $299 (seems that Sony feels some sort of guilt regarding these not quite uncommon motherboard failures). So far so good  :yahoo:

Now for the bad news:
Due to the nature of things I will most likely loose ALL game saves without chance for recovery (as some googling confirmed). Any game I played will have to be begun at square 1 again (incl. Fallout 3) :weep:

Ouch. That would be the worst thing. Can you do offline backups from consoles?

I can't think of any way to do it without booting the PS3 up, as the hard drive is built in, not external.

However can't the service guy simply migrate your hard drive to another machine and backup your saves from there - all you need is a USB pen drive to put them on.

Offline backups? Except the trophies nothing is stored online and to make a backuip from my hard disk now I would have to boot it up. (O.k., to be honest, I actually have a backup, it's jus a few months old and still lacks lots of data, like the complete 100% playthrough of Uncharted 2).

I understand that they match the harddrive to the motherboard during initial format. Since the motherboard is dead, there is apparently no way (the service might just be a little lazy to go the extra mile) to get to the data on my disc.

Well, I did ask them to get me back my hard drive, especially since it's an upgraded one (320MB instead of 40MB) and I'll give them back the original one. If it should be possible to use an adapter to USB-link it to the new PS3 to get at least the save games, I can at least try so myself. ...or just keep the drive until someone finds a way.

I am, however, slowly acquainting myself with the idea that I may have to start all over. It's just games, after all, and for proof of my previous "achievements" I still have the trophies which are indeed backed up online.

I don't know if the same thing exists for PS3, but for my 360, I have a thing called Xport that I USB-plug into my PC, snap my Xbox harddrive into, and with a special software, I can create an image of the hard drive, including the security bits, should the worst even happen.

Which reminds me I should probably re-image the drive soon... haven't done it for a WHILE, and I move around between 3 different Xbox... yeah I know disaster waiting to happen...

I will keep checking. But the hard drive isn't my problem. It's the fact that the motherboard it's "attached to" is no longer available. So, even if I could back it up using the PC then I'd still lack the motherboard.

Actually, the PS3 has it's integrated backup feature and as I said, I do have a backup on a USB disc at home. It's just older than it should be.

But the savegames shouldn't tied to the motherboard.. so if you can read them off the hard drive, you should be able to move them to the new one.. no?
