What should help Achim is the ability to use tv episodes.
I expect at least 50% of mine will be watching Xmas TV specials - Morecambe and Wise, Porridge, OFAH etc., which will seriously cut down viewing time.

The more I think about it, the more difficult the christmas marathon seems to me. I find it hard to find movies with christmas themes or some kind of link to christmas in my collection.

Watching TV episodes instead is out of question. I do not like to watch single episodes of a TV series out of context. And also christmas episodes often belong to the weaker episodes IMO.

I'm thinking that I will instead watch

9 movies beginning with
C

and 9 movies ending with
       C
       H
       R
       I

and 9 movies with a christmas theme or link.


I still need an idea for the final 4 movies to get to the 31.

Oooooh, I like this idea!

And I vote for the last four to be somewhat theme-less. You want guilty pleasures? Go for it. Strictly unwatched stuff? Go for it. A «fourlilogy*»? Go for it.

I like your thinking Tom - perhaps the final four can be G I F T, as you can spoil yourself and watch what you want

Took a trip to storage this weekend. I have my collection back. 

21 letters to go to finish. I will finish this marathon!!!!!

Well I finally got around to posting my November list...spare as it is. I babysat my niece and three nephews, all under the age of 7, which accounts for me watching Rolie Polie Olie - hey I had to watch it, I'm getting credit for it! The only good thing about it was it was the different songs that the kids danced to; they were absolutely wonderful to watch (the children - not the movie!). Don't laugh I still have to add Hammy's Nutty Fun and Sponge Bob Square Pants!

I was going to watch Hot Fuzz again for my Z, but The Yakuza arrived today, so I thought I'd watch that instead. It's only one step off the Z and it's almost phonetically correct... 

Anyway, I'm really glad I did. My Dad told me about this film years ago, long before I had any understanding of Japanese culture. I still don't of course, but I have at least developed a fascination with the honour bound history of the Samurai and the country in general. Despite his recommendation all those years ago, today I did wonder if this was Robert Mitchum, a little too old, playing a glorified tourist as an excuse to show the west how quaint and quirky Japan is.

This is actually a great film and very evenly balanced. Mitchum is perfect in the role and a great deal of respect is shown for the culture. No tourism worries. It's the sort of solid thriller they could make in the 1970s, yet they seem to have forgotten how today. The story is old fashioned Film Noir, but it disguises an intricate level of detail and some fantastic action. The latter is straightforward, memorable and to the point. No prevaricating, no cheesy one liners, just well choreographed punch-ups. Only more swords than John Wayne would be used to seeing! Mitchum sticks with pistols and shotguns though. I mentioned the attention to detail? The sword fights wouldn't look out of place in a Kurosawa. Seriously. They just have that heavier Western style.

The only drawback for me was the music, which in the more pedestrian scenes made me feel like I was watching a TV detective. Which is a shame, because this is in no way a TV movie.

I've got one title to watch to complete marathon, French film so not in huge hurry as my language skills have deteriorated over the last few years since I stopped business trading into France in any reasonable quantities

Well, I've not given up, officially, but it is now obvious that I will not finish this marathon. Had way too much work between the 11th and the 20th... and now? I just received Mass Effect! 

And 11 movies in ~8 days, with only 1 weekend in it all.. Don't think I'll make it

Essentially I have finished for a while. The only one missing is D and here I will count 'Spaced' from the other marathon if I do not watch another movie in time. I am currently concentrating on my unwatched TV show pile when time permits. Smaller doses for in-between watching  .

I'm on the home straight. Only a couple of days since The Yakuza, so I don't think I warrant red cards just yet! I'm left with U though, and I plan to see Ikuru. Not exactly a Friday night special, but I just slot it in this weekend...
