Dead Set

I've included this in my horror marathon, but it isn't complete yet, so haven't talked about it. It's a TV drama here in the UK. Anyone catch it? First part was tonight and it was great.

Big Brother is a massive show here. I hate it. Liked the idea of the first series, then it just got filled with twats. Anyway, Dead Set is a typical zombie outbreak story, but it happens while Big Brother is on air and the housemates have no idea! The next day they wake up and realise Big Brother isn't playing anymore and can't work out why. Meanwhile, a zombie-fied cameraman is licking the one-way glass hungrily.

What makes this so good is that the good sports at Big Brother have allowed full access to their likeness. The house, the diary room, the logos are all genuine. Plus, it has Davina! And she gets infected! Bloody brilliant.

The style is very serious, 28 Days Later vibe. Played so straight it could be a companion to the film. Pretty scary and the Big Brother, celebrity non-entities is perfect for classic zombie metaphors. In fact it's probably better than Romero's Diary of the Dead. Shockingly good. Remember, it's just a TV program. ;)

Here's an article with a picture of Davina...

Well, make sure you do! Part 2 was on tonight and it's very good indeed. Several in-jokes about classic movies, zombies that run like marathon athletes, great dialogue, plenty of gore. This will hopefully find a life on DVD because it deserves a good reputation alongside other more traditional horrors. The Big Brother hook is an obvious gimmick in some ways, but it's approached with such passion it just makes sense.

By the end, this was good enough to warrant an entry in my October Marathon. Very good indeed. Even had a brief flash of nudity!

EDIT: This is great! And slightly disturbing if you've ever seen the diary room setup before... :o Get Infected Viral

I started downloading these episodes off the net to check the show out.... As we will be lucky if we ever see the DVDs here. I see 5 episodes online (downloading episode 3 now). Is there only 5 episodes to the entire series? or will there be more?

Just five. The first episode was about 80 minutes, then 4 more at about 30 minutes each (figures include ad breaks). It's one story though, so the equivalent of a decent length movie.

Normally it will stop working after a month, so don't let them expire!

Really? I downloaded xvid off of Bittorrent and burned them to disc already! Damn! I didn't know such files could expire.

I was surprised to see that my DVD Player was able to play the xvid files... so I will be able to watch them on my TV instead of this small computer screen!

Anyway... Thanks for the warning... I am in the middle of another show I just got hooked on again... so will probably watch them after I watch it.

Oh, sorry! I assumed you'd got them off the official site I gave a link to where you can watch them online. If you've got them off a torrent then you're right, they ain't going anywhere.

It is amazing what you can find on a simple torrent site, not that I've been there much myself
