Critter

#480
This is part of a new tourism campaign for Australia and talk about  :slaphead:.
I honestly don't know what they were thinking. There is a fatal flaw in this ad (besides it being pretty lame).
The flaw I am talking about is in one scene two girls are shown driving in the car, with the driver on the left side of the car. What the hell! This is Australia. We drive on the right side of the car here, nation wide. As far as I know there is no exception to this. Yet here, in this commercial advertising Australia the person is driving on the wrong side of the car, just like America or something. It can't have been a mistake, they must have done it for some stupid reason. Who knows where they even got a left sided car in this country.
Maybe Wombat will be able to shed some light on this for me.

Maybe this scene is mirror inverted? Anyway - confusing!

NFI.

The funny thing is, in an earlier scene (0:46) the (different) car is right-hand drive.
I do like the "That's not a bear" comment.  :hysterical:

Yeah I noticed that other car that was a proper one. It's interesting how they including both an Australian AND a non Australian car. I honestly will never understand the Australian Tourism company. I mean our last campaign was that obscure Baz Lurhmann thing that hardly made sense, and now this? Just bring back the 'Where the bloody hell are you?' ads :P
And yeah the bear comment was cute.

I think you got confused here. The second one was the proper car, the first one merely represented Australia correctly ;)

D'you mean the film starring Hugh Jackman & Nicole Kidman?

Most likely, yes.

All I know is that the Australians of (Cool) Shite on the Tube trashed the film pretty badly.

Haha no, there was actually a tourism ad directed by him. It was to do with the film Australia though as they were both released at about the same time, and both starred the same young aboriginal boy in it. The film itself was probably part of the larger campaign but this is the ad I was talking about:

Did you know that here in the good old UK the 3 terrestrial TV stations that carry advertising edited out the word bloody. The scatterlight and cable stations were able to broadcast the full advert though.

That wasn't so bad. I like the first half at the very least.

Did you get that the city was supposed to be New York? It was filmed in Melbourne but I'm pretty sure they were going for New York. The ad is okay but really, you only see about 10 seconds of actual Australia in it.
