The UK stole the Minogue sisters from us a long time ago. In fact when I think of them now I think of England, not of Australia. Not that it matters though, they were never really huge here but you seem to love them over there. Much like that insane British fascination with out God awful soap operas.
If it wasn't for them being so popular in the UK they would have stopped being made years ago as no Australians watch them .

An yeah, I've never heard of this VV Brown, but I'll check her out.

Yeah, your soaps are dreadful, but they do have a very specific audience. Teenagers. They seem really popular in the early evening, when kids are getting home from school. It's weird, but be assured, we do have standards! Neighbours and Home & Away don't trouble the big soaps, like Coronation St (just celebrating its 50th anniversary). And as I've said before, ours are of very high quality. I think some people watch the Aussie soaps because they're innocently trashy!

I watch Coronation St sometimes, to me it's just like Neighbours but with a whole array of different accents. I think the storylines are better though.

Oh well, at least we can agree that both Aus and UK soap operas, while basically crap are still a whole lot better than any US ones haha. I can't even watch a minute of The Bold and the Beautiful and keep a straight face. It's like they just make them to be laughed at.

I tried to watch an episode of some US soap one day. Bloody hell, how do they even get through filming it? Truly, deeply awful!

Soaps are weird. I don't watch "Corrie" but I do see a lot of Emmerdale because my mum likes it. Basic acting and writing are excellent, but a lot of the time it's mundane crap while they have to balance a lot of characters and trying to be real. Actors can frequently be seen being lazy because 80% of their time is just being there. Then a big storyline happens and it's better, but not remotely real! Sometimes they get it perfect; a recent storyline in Emmerdale had this young thug admitting he was gay. The lad who plays him gave a truly brilliant performance. Jaw dropping stuff. Then in the same episode you get some guff about a missing dog or some such nonsense.

I think people latch on to ours so strongly because in the strongest moments, they have a connection with someone going through an ordeal they can relate to. As soon as they get sensationalist it's usually junk. Although a recent kidnapping and torture story was fun.

I use to watch a few years ago.  I stopped watching Days of Our Lives when one character was possessed by the devil.  My mom still watches it, so I hear a bit about what is going on.
It just keeps getting more outlandish.  She admits that it is stupid, but it is the only one she watches.

Ronnie Corbett, with a little help from his friends, has made a new sketch show for Christmas, called the One Ronnie. I'm sure you're all aware of this, possibly the greatest sketch ever:

Well, he's done an updated version. It's silly, but great fun! The shopkeeper this time is Harry Enfield:

I stumbled across a repeat of a Vicar of Dibley episode today, where dumb Hugo proposes to the incredibly thick Alice, and I felt I had to post the clip because it's particularly funny with a film reference!  :P It starts where Hugo's father has told him he will cut him out of the considerable Will should he marry Alice...
