True Blood
« on: October 21, 2008, 05:11:18 PM »
Hi,

I've just watched the first two episodes and it was interesting. And rather explicit if I might add. Just out of curiosity: At which time is it actually aired on HBO?

I have a DVD here with the first episode on it (bonus when I purchased Rome). Haven't had the chance too check it out yet, but it looks interesting from what I've read here and there about it.

I watched all but this weeks episode... and to be honest I just can't decide if I like it or not. It is like it is just there... and I will check it out when I am bored type of thing. But yet when I watch it I enjoy it. Then the cycle starts over... won't watch it right away... only when I am bored.  :P

Hey, you followed my advice...

I haven't seen anything yet except for some of the promo stuff at HBO's website, but most reviews I've read seemed rather disappointed.

That's kind of how I feel about it too.  I haven't been making that much of an effort to see it, but I tend to enjoy it when I do watch it..even while finding certain things to be ...corny or just stupid.

1st episode =
2nd episode =
3rd episode = ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

and I slept through the 4th as well. Then I just stopped watching it. But to be honest it's mostly due to having other stuff I would rather watch and not having the time to watch everything.

It is available for me "On Demand" so I know I can pick it up and watch the whole season when I get some time. I think it was a mistake to air it as the fall TV season was starting. Had it begun a couple of months ago it would have had the chance to get a following before the TV season started. As it is now you had one or two weeks to get to like it then all the "old favorites" came back. Not enough time IMO.

I will watch it though. It has been renewed for next year as well.

Did I mention how much the accents (or lack there of) bothers me?  :redcard:

What do you mean by "lack of accents"? For they speak nothing but in accents.

Where they are geographically they should sound like Bobby Boucher and his Mama (from The Waterboy). Most of them speak with some kind of what we would call a southern accent, not the Cajun type they should.

It's just one of those things that bug me for some reason. Probably because if they simply had picked a location 150 miles to the east all of their accents would work. But you can't be in the bayou of Louisiana for generations and not sound like a Cajun.   :yellowcard:

I've just finished the first season (12 episodes à 52 minutes) and I generally liked it even though it had some long-winded parts.

It tells a continuing story, so it's not an episode-to-episode show on which you can leave out three or four episodes without missing something.

I'll watch now Sanctuary, let's see how this is.

I thought True Blood was alright... but not one that I was too thrilled with. Worth watching... but think it could have been better.

I really like Sanctuary... even though I have gotten behind in episodes. I have the last 4 or 5 episodes to watch yet.

Dubbed only, or do they also broadcast the OV? Not that it really matters to me, since I don't have Premiere and I've got the DVDs now anyway.

And after just having watched the first episode, I mostly like it. Anna Paquin as Sookie is simply amazing and the remaining cast is pretty good too. But the episode is a bit uneven; the general mood and the character moments are fine, but the exposition stuff is handled clumsily. I really like the accents though, even if they might be wrong, as Rick pointed out. Also, great title theme and sound track. So far, better than Rome or The Sopranos, but not at the same level as Six Feet Under, Deadwood, or Carnivale.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. How is this show in later seasons? I've just watched the first two episodes of season 1 and quite impressed so far. Going to finish tonights viewing with another two episodes.

btw, the commentary on episode 1 was very interesting. It'll be the only one I listen to as I only ever listen to first episode comms on TV sets unless it's a fave show, just so I can get a feel of the aims, background info and ambitions.
