While I have personal reservations about what (in RL) the US armed forces are doing all over the world I always liked military movies and TV shows, like "Top Gun", "A Few Good Men", "The Final Countdown" and so on.
And I always liked J.A.G. even when they included the Iraq war into their storylines.
So I just bought and watched the first season of JAG (bought in the UK since it hasn't been released in Germany yet).
For anyone who doesn't know: The story is about Navy lawyers who serve the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) of the United States Navy and investigate cases that fall under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). We see a lot of action footage such as shootings (camera shootings
) on aircraft carrierers and submarines.
Technically:
The DVD is presented in PAL, 4:3 format and english 2.0 stereo. Unfortunately in some episodes on the right side of the picture there is a disturbing small bar that is slightly brighter than the rest of the picture.
My opinion:
Although in the first seasons they re-used scenes made for "Top Gun", "The Hunt for Red October" and "Clear and Present Danger" it doesn't really matter. What matters more is that the exploding effects look worse than (for example) in "Airwolf" back in the 80s. I also had get used to the voices. As you might know, in Germany all movies and TV shows are being dubbed (they also dubbed "Letters from Iwo Jima" and the japanese parts of Hiro and Ando in "Heroes"
). So I watched 10 years of JAG and heard Rabb with "his" german voice. And when you don't know his original voice you get used to it. And then you hear his own voice and it sounds strange and unfamiliar but it went better with every episode I watched. From all three female "sidekicks" I liked Lt. jg. Meg Austin the less. She had to much issues and the chemistry between Rabb and MacKenzie or Rabb and Pike was much better.
