If Portal is the only game you want I guess you can get it through Steam or perhaps it is now being distributed separate from the Orange Box which contain Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal.

I had a phone call from my brother recently who just could not stop rave about Assassin's Creed which was surprising for me since he has some problem with games in that he gets sick after some short time playing 1:st person shooters. So it was nice to hear him rave about this 3:rd person game in detail, such as to the characters movement in across some situations in the game. To me that sounds like a game to get my hands on too.
He also told me that he got a new PC and for a while we discussed me getting a new PC too so we could get to play some game in coop mode over the net. We discussed Gear of War being such a game or at least I think it was Gear of War (some type of futuristic machine on the front cover).

Half-Life 2 5/5
Half-Life 2 Episode 1 3.5/5
Half-Life 2 Episode 2 4/5
Half-Life 2 Portal 3.5/5 For me, Portal's puzzle was, shall we say, semi challenging and offered resistance in a few places but, as already mentioned, it has a humorous angle to it that makes it worth playing.

Episode 2 better than 1? Admittedly, I have yet to complete it, but that surprises me. I loved episode 1, while 2 is merely f***ing brilliant...  ;)

Finally got through lvl 18/19 on Portal.

Hint (if anybody else is trying it): Backtrack!  ;)

On to 19/19!

Make sure you get the Friendly Fire Achievement by making one turret fire at another, and listen to the 'victim'...

Well as of now, I'm still just getting through the game, having fun figuring out the puzzles (although at the time of this writing, I'm totally stumped somewhere in level 19/19). I'll get back, and do the achievements.

I found the friendly fire the easiest to get just by taking them out anyway. Next time you get stuck near turrets, open a portal above one, and a portal below another. It will drop through knocking the other one over. Then they'll start shooting, as they do. If you're lucky, they'll happen to hit each other...

Have you been warned yet that someone went and cut the cake?

Have you tried any of the advanced maps? If so... HELP! :bag:  On one hand, they pull cruel stunts like making the companion cube a ball. That rolls away. I keep losing it, and don't even get me started on trying to stand on it! Then they put a glass wall in front of a ball catcher. Ok. I'll work that out. But... in two of the maps, they've made it so certain walls and ceilings can't hold portals. I just cannot see how the heck you're supposed to use the fling method.

I've just completed Half Life 2: Episode 2. Damn, that final fight with the Striders was tough! It helped once I realised Hunters were quite fragile if you could run them over. It didn't help that my blasted mouse locked up twice. Fun blowing up Striders, but I couldn't have left it any tighter. The last one was at the gates and about to dismantle the walls when I finally caught the swine! Looking forward to Episode 3 now...

Yea, that fight was a tough one as I recall, didn't want to go through that again, though. :fingerchew:
Did you get all the worm'ish... ehum things, I don't remember their name but there are >300 of them to get.
The second time I played I tried to get them all but came up short. I believe I missed 3 of them.

Episode 3? Yea, bring it!!! :D

I didn't. I think I was about 20 short. I loved how it played into the game though. You see it on the achievement list, so you happily go around stomping every one you find. Then a character tells you to avoid them because it attracts antlions!

It wasn't until late on I realised a way to kill a Hunter with its own flechettes, but I never managed to pull it off. How about the gnome though? Did you try to get it into the rocket?  :o
