* * * THE FINAL ROUND - UPDATE  * * *

Nothing fancy, just the questions as asked written by one warrior for the other.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Samara was the first to get her questions in. Here is what she had for James:

Question 1:
Which doesn't fit the category?

      'The Breakfast Club'
      'Sunset Strip'
      'Mallrats'
      'Fast Times At Rigemont High'

Question 2:
Trick or treat! The characters have decided to get in disguise. Can you still identify the movie?

Question 3:
What movie is this quote from?

____________________________________________________________________________________

James was close behind with Samara and came up with this:

1. I love Oscar trivia; don't you, Samara? Three Best Actress winners have also been nominated in non-acting categories. Name the actress who was nominated in a non-acting category prior to her win for Best Actress.

2. Here'a a little game you played with me. Start with these character names and you'll find that the actors who played these roles also played in a movie that I think you might fancy.

Connie Parker
Matt Fowler
Sloan Cates
Marcus Andronicus
Debra Morgan

3. I know you are fond of Mother. Here's a picture of my mother. Who am I?

____________________________________________________________________________________

PMs have been sent to both players. The clock starts ticking at 1:00 am my time (eastern). Should be interesting

Yeah! Tough questions from both duelists! (Both sets contain questions I have no clue what the answer is.) I am excited to see the results coming in soon...

That would be James since Samara is (allegedly) a woman  :hysterical:

Yeah... Answers are submitted  :heat:

Rick, might as well post the result tonight then. If we've both submitted, no need to wait until 1am.

* * * THE FINAL ROUND * * *
* * THE ANSWERS ARE IN * *

Samara's questions and James' answers:

Question 1:
Which doesn't fit the category?

      'The Breakfast Club'
      'Sunset Strip'
      'Mallrats'
      'Fast Times At Rigemont High'

1. All of the movies take place in one day except for Fast Times
or
2. Fast Times was a book first, the others were movies first.
or
3. The Breakfast Club is a drama and the others are comedies.
or
4. Sunset Strip is post-high school while the others have high school characters.
or
5. All except Sunset Strip are released on HD DVD, so that could be an alternative!

The Correct Answer:
'The Breakfast Club': The other movies tell what happens to the characters after the story ends.

Question 2:
Trick or treat! The characters have decided to get in disguise. Can you still identify the movie?

Mrs. Doubtfire!  :-*
CORRECT!

Question 3:
What movie is this quote from?

Gremlins!  :-*
CORRECT!

____________________________________________________________________________________

James' questions and Samara's answers:

1. I love Oscar trivia; don't you, Samara? NO I don't!
Three Best Actress winners have also been nominated in non-acting categories. Name the actress who was nominated in a non-acting category prior to her win for Best Actress.
Shirley MacLaine was nominated in 1975 in the Best Documentary category for "The Other Half of the Sky: A China Memoir", prior to winning Best Actress in 1983 for "Terms of Endearment" in the role of Aurora Greenway

The other two Best Actress winners that were nominated for something other than acting were:
Barbra Streisand (Best Picture, Music)
Emma Thompson (Writing)

CORRECT!

2. Here'a a little game you played with me. For the record, I didn't play that game with you, the Host did! ;) Start with these character names and you'll find that the actors who played these roles also played in a movie that I think you might fancy.

Connie Parker
Matt Fowler
Sloan Cates
Marcus Andronicus
Debra Morgan
So we have:
Connie Parker played by Laura Linney in The Mothman Prophecies
Matt Fowler played by Tom Wilkinson in In the Bedroom
Sloan Cates played by Campbell Scott in Music and Lyrics
Marcus Andronicus played by Colm Feore in Titus
Debra Morgan played by Jennifer Carpenter in Dexter

They all played in The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

And you are right, this is a movie I enjoyed.

CORRECT!

3. I know you are fond of Mother. Here's a picture of my mother. Who am I?

 I don't even know who it is in the picture! :bag:

The Correct Answer: Damien from The Omen (1976). (That would be Lee Remick splatted on the floor after taking a tumble from the balcony)

We have a tie. Both players wounded, neither mortally. I'll leave it up to the two combatants to decide if they want to call it a tie  :friends:  or if they want to each ask the other one more question  :voodoo:

Personally, let's call it a tie and move on to a new round, let the other people play a little.

* * * EPILOGUE * * *

And there you have it. We have completed the first round of the “Horror Mansion Survival Game” Let’s see a quick recap of the game.

One month ago Sailor Ripley put out a challenge to anyone interested in a PM and Rules intensive game. 5 players initially accepted the challenge with Kathy jumping in just as things were getting started. Here were the initial players.

Rick (Lyonsden5) ...........as The Swimless Labrador
        Eric (Touti)......................as Jack the Ripper
Achim (Ya_Shin)..............as Prince (No seriously, what does his avatar mean?)
Jon (Najemikon).............as Scarlett Johansson After a Hard Night of Partying
    Kathy.............................as The Fearless Caged Panda

and...

    Sebastien (RossRoy)........as Samara

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Samara’s  first target was . It was touch and go there for a bit and the question of hints came up. So as not to make things too extremely difficult for the players it was decided to allow hints for clues, a decision that would later prove unnecessary.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rick survived the 1st encounter and we all moved again. Achim was next to be attacked. He too survived his first encounter with   Samara. The next round Samara targeted….nobody. She picked an empty room. Frustration was already beginning to set in for our killer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To help spice things up a bit the took a bit of a twist.   Zombies were introduced to help Samara chase down our players.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jon was attacked next… and survived.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again the game was changed to make it more interesting. The addition of a variety of hidden books      was added. However, these books were not just comprised of regular novels or reference material. These books contained either Blessings or Curses. Blessings to help you greatly on your way; Curses to damage your advancement in the game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was here where we had a new player. Mister Cellophane himself, James decided to join in the fun. He started in the same place everyone started, the main hall, a place he would really get to know before the game was over.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next round and the round after that found Samara once again sitting in a room all by herself. Another rule change was implemented. From this point forward the killer would now choose his or room only after the other players picked theirs. :voodoo: It was still random but allowed for an attack at every round. So now is when the bloodshed would begin… right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next     Samara attacked James.

At the same time both Jon and Rick found the way out, they just had to get past   Mother!

James survived the attack. Rick and Jon correctly answered Mother’s 5 questions and were released from the mansion. Victorious, they celebrated outside by having a picnic lunch ???
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At this point we had a set back. Our host and the game’s creator was called away from his hosting duties to actually do some work. This was not the end though. Having recently freed himself from Samara’s clutches Rick decided to take up the hosting duties. The game would continue, under new management, although it would be missing some of the flair its original host added.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eric was attacked next, and survived.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shortly after Achim found his way out of the mansion by defeating    Mother. He joined Jon at the pup down the street to celebrate.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eric was attacked yet again, and survived, James was being sent back to the beginning of the game and Kathy was desperately searching for a key.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mother had a pleasant surprise for      Samara. The next round Samara would be able to attack all three players at one time. Surely there would be bloodshed now… NOT!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But wait, soon after     Samara did get her 1st kill. With the help of her minion Henrietta (who was Kathy under Samara’s evil spell), she successfully attacked   James and nailed him with an Owen Wilson action movie question. James was toast. But to poor Samara’s surprise this kill did not last. James had in his possession a blessing which allowed him to resurrect himself. Unfortunately for James it was once again back in the main hall. James spent so much time in the main hall he transformed into

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With Henrietta still at her side     Samara was able to attack both remaining players the next round. Again, nothing. Our players were just too good.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kathy, now back to her cheerful self, and Eric both correctly identified the new way out of the mansion,  Hannibal Lecter’s cell.

Hannibal’s questions were pretty tricky. It looked like Eric and Kathy may not be leaving just yet.

Wrong. Our players once again proved their movie trivia knowledge to be unstoppable.

Meanwhile, deep in the mansion’s lower levels,      Samara and James were battling yet again. James was the victor this time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once Eric and Kathy escaped it left behind only two players. One killer who didn’t kill and one wayward delivery man who kept getting sent back to the beginning of the game. In their previous three encounters James had thwarted Samara’s attacks two times. Feeling confident James decided to challenge Samara to a three question duel to the death. As with most other rounds the end result didn’t quite match the hype going into the round. Both players correctly answered two of the three questions.

Calling it a draw they both left the mansion... this time through the front door. :friends:

I would like to thank Sailor Ripley for starting this game for us. It evolved as we played into what I believe is a really fun way to sharpen and show off your movie trivia knowledge. Also a special thanks to Sebastien. It could not have been easy to be defeated at each and every attack. You were a good sport about all the kidding you received (and will no doubt continue to receive).

I enjoyed hosting the second half of the game and am looking forward to playing the next round of the

Anyone want to have another go at this AFTER the 1st of the year?

With all the new people and some of the suggestions we had while we played I think it would be fun.

I am willing to help host the game but not to take it all on myself. (It really is a lot of work). Perhaps with some of our new people some of it could be automated (as suggested earlier).

Thoughts?
