There's many good movies coming out of Hollywood but one must dig to find them because they're shadowed by those with big budgets, big names and lots of advertising.

Any movie that deals with the intricacies and complexity of people is good in essence, some are just better than others depending on how the subject is exploited.

A few very good movies from Quebec that some of you might like.
L'Audition
Elles étaient cinq
Le Confessionnal (First movie from Robert Lepage)
Un Dimanche à Kigali

Some good ones
Souvenirs intimes
La vie avec mon père
La Turbulence des Fluides

If you like pleasant comedies you might enjoy
La Grande Séduction

I will post overview in the following replies.

Louis, 40, a man who's hired to violently threaten people who owe money, always dreamed of becoming an actor.  An occasion to pass an audition for a role in a film and the announcement that Suzie awaits their first child come shake his life.

Manon Cloutier, 32, accepts a dinner invitation from her colleague, Stéphane Lebeau. Romance is on the menu!  A few days later, still aglow from this fledgling relationship, Manon is at the carwash where she becomes completely distraught at the glimpse of a man with tattooed arms.  Terrified, Manon hurries home and double-bolts the door.  So begins a series of flashbacks.  She remembers a summer day, when she was 17, when she and her girlfriends, Anne, Claudie, Isa and Sophie, are getting ready for a party at Sophie's cottage.  She remembers how much fun they used to have together.  But 15 years later, she realizes that despite all Stéphanie's kind attentions, only her childhood friends can really help her overcome her pain.  Will she manage to turn the page on this dark episode in her life and find the happiness she deserves ?

God help me but…I know I will – I’m hopeless!

I would miss Krik, Kevin, Dr. K and of course a little blah, blah, blah, blah (among others!)

The overview of this movie would be quite long to translate so I'll just say what I know about it, which isn't much since I haven't seen it yet myself.

As you probably already guessed, the story takes place in Rwanda, during the genocide.  It's about a film maker who's making a documentary on aids in Rwanda.  He had fallen in love with a Rwandese (I think it's the correct word) woman who at first had difficultires accepting him since he's white and not african but finally let herself live this passionate love that they share.

When the war between the Hutus and the Tutsis starts, he, like many non-citizens have to leave the country.  A few months later, after almost 1 million people have died, he returns to try to find her.

What is most interesting is that it's not an all Québec cast and crew.  They hired actors, actresses and crew from Rwanda, Tutsis and Hutus working together on a movie that revisits a time when they were killing each other simply on the base of their tribes. I have to buy this movie this week, that's  gonna be my treat sunday night, an excellent movie to complete my vacations.
