Well, I'm still completely in love with Dexter's foulmouthed sister...
Just a quick note that the Empire essay Jon has linked to contains heavy spoilers.
If I'm supposed to sympathize with Howie right away, then the entire setup makes even less sense. And I did get that religion is the central theme, even if I forgot it to mention in my original review. The problem is that it falls flat, there isn't any real discourse about it, mostly because Howie is unable to express his "faith" - he is just appalled and speechless, no match for the eloquent Lord Summerisle.Spoilers again: (click to show/hide)The other thing: Not one moment did I expect Howie to succeed. I mean, he is all alone on that island. If there is foul play at work (as it turns out to be), what are his chances? He is neither thorough nor competent, but fooled by a severe misjudgement of his own authority.
