I guess so.. Unless I find a way to plug that into my existing monitor, but then at 22", I don't think it's all that much worth it.. but then I download a 1080p HD trailer for Mass Effect 2 and I start drooling uncontrollably.. even on my 22" monitor..

If you watch Blu-ray on 22" it almost defeats the purpose... But, you could consider it as "getting ready", not having to make two big purchases at the same time and get the big TV (35" up) later on.

As for LotR, I remember reading that Peter Jackson commented that the extended cuts may in fact be released next year, therefore before The Hobbit. He did bascially finish Lovely Bones and is not quite due yet to work on his Tin Tin film (Spielberg is apparently done filming his, now into the two-year post production...).

I wonder how much control Peter Jackson has on any of it.  Now that he's done making the movies they probably belong entirely to the studio and I don't know if he would have anything to say about how and when they release this version or that one.

As you know some director's have more power than others. I believe Universal couldn't release any of the Spielberg films without his approval.

However, I was not purely guessing that information, I had listened to an interview with Jackson (recorded during ComiCon, in regards to District 9) where he made comments regarding the state of Lovely Bones, The Hobbit and LotR.

I for one will wait.

I really don't want to support the studios and encourage them in this practice but in this case it's gonna be very hard to wait.  I wonder if the box set release next Nov. will be available in video clubs.  I could rent it and wait until the EE's are released to purchase it.
