Summer night US TV
« on: June 28, 2008, 04:01:12 AM »
I've watch some US television this week and to be honest I've fall on two shows that completly make me loose my faith in humanity (ok I exaggerate a little).

The Baby Borrowers
WTF is that! They let idiot teenagers take care of a baby!!! One of them even let starve one of the baby for a day. Is this how irresponsible reality tv is now? What next? A reality show that star starving African peoples

America Got "no" Talent
The winner in this week show : An Elvis impressionist (is this the word?), a guy that break cement block, a magician that made a trick as old as the world and an annoying singer that have a sad backstory. Wow if this is the best talent that the USA have I understand why very few good americans films or songs have been made for years.  :P

Yeah, TV these days is abysmal, especially when it comes to reality TV.

I don't know about America Got Talent, but, the winner of Britain's Got Talent is awesome. Search Paul Potts on You Tube. It's worth it. His winning rendition of Nessun Dorma sent shivers down my spine (you have to like opera though). His audition video is awesome too, especially the judges change of heart as he sings and their reactions at the end (especially Simon's). The faces the judges make are priceless.

I've seen him when it was shown on the Francois Paradis show at tva  :bag:

If you want to listen to a good version of this song try this one :

This is a live version, but the 2002 album version is incredible. I'm a fan of Manowar since their start and like the wine they age very well.

Unfortunately, the americans aren't the only ones we can criticize for this, it seems to be a new trend all over the world, including here right in our own backyard with highly educational and intellectual shows like Star Academie, Occupation Double, Le Banquier and Loft Story.

What I find most surprising is the ratings these stupidities get which shows that people actually like it.  It's not television that is going low, it is society, TV is nothing more than a mirror of what we've become.  In Star Trek TNG they often something along the lines of "Being more as a whole than the sum of its parts", I'm afraid it doesn't apply to society, we are far worst as a whole than we are individually.

:stars: What was that, am I preaching ?

When I was working as a store cashier, I was so tired to heard peoples talking to me about Marie Elaine, Corneliu, ... Why do they think I care or give a #### about an untalented artist known only by his/her first name? I've seen two of them at work and one other at an university party, I will not name them but I've never seen peoples with no talent with an ego that big. But an encounter with Rudy Caya at my night work was really great, he chat with me 1 hours and he was not pretentious for one cent.

ok, enough life stories

Gotta agree with Eric. It's hard to believe people watch some of this crap but they do. I enjoy some reality TV but most of it is insulting to my intelligence. ( :hysterical: I just spelled intelligence wrong... how ironic is that  :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: ). As long as the people will watch the networks will keep putting the junk out there. It's very cheap for them to produce.

This summer is terrible for TV viewing. Now that BSG is done I have only two shows I'm recording (till SGA come back ... next week I think).  :yahoo:

One is "Fear Itself" and of the 4 episodes I've only enjoyed one. The Other is "In Plain Site" Actually starting to grow on me. The 1sty episode the characters were way over the top and tried too hard to show us who they are but since then they've all toned it down a bit.

The other night when I quit working I found myself watching (and enjoying) "Deadliest Catch" on Discovery HD. A "reality show" about Alaskan crab fishermen doing their thing on the Bering sea. After watching three episodes I told my wife I finally found someone who has a crappier job than I do, but I had to travel to the Bearing sea to find them  :hysterical: Then I saw how much they make  :o I'm back to looking for someone with a crappier job than me

I have seen the promo for this one this week and it looks interesting, but I will wait for the dvd since I've miss the beginning and the review by Pete.

Even if I already know that he will tell that he had enjoying it

Since we lost all those posts I won't attempt to put what I did last time... Like I could remember!  :P

But to restate...
Baby Borrowers... I hated every second of it... the show royally pissed me off both as a viewer and a parent.

As for Fear Itself... see thread I am starting now.

I survive on a pretty constant diet of reality tv. Right now my summer favorite is So You Think You Can Dance. Big Brother starts up again on July 13th and I'll be all over that.  :tv:

Never saw Baby Borrowers. Sounds like it's good I missed it.  :yucky:

So You Think You Can Dance
I watch this one, except that it's the French Canadian dub version (FOX is not a part of my cable package) and I appreciate it. At least the participant have real talent.
